One thing people have asked me over the last month is whether #SWF will be organising the Social Web Devroom at #FOSDEM2027 . The answer is: fingers crossed!
We submitted the application to manage the devroom ahead of the October 4 deadline. We haven’t heard back yet; the announcements are scheduled for October 20, about a week from this writing.
If the dev room is accepted, we will put out the call for proposals soon after that — it has to be published by October 27.
We have been really lucky to have broad participation from volunteers and partner orgs in doing the organization for the last 2 events. It encompasses everything from soliciting applications, judging the entries, and building the schedule to MCing the event, helping people at the door, and watching the time for speakers.
If you want to be part of that work, please let us know! It is much easier work if we spread it around.
SWF is also not organising BOFs at FOSDEM. So, if you have something to discuss, please plan a BOF!
I really recommend coming to @fosdem if it’s affordable and convenient for you. It’s a great event.
A brief note: the Social Web Foundation, Qlub and FediHost are presenting a day-long Fediverse conference in Montreal, Canada on February 24, 2026. FediMTL features speakers from across the Fediverse, including Cory Doctorow, Christine Lemmer-Webber, Julian Lam, and yours truly, Evan Prodromou. The theme of digital autonomy for Canada has never been more important. Tickets are on sale now for both in person and streaming attendance. I look forward to seeing you there!
From August 15-17 2025, SWF will be helping to bring the Fediverse to HOPE. HOPE (Hackers on Planet Earth) is a grass-roots conference for hackers and developers in Queens in New York City. This year, I (Evan) will be speaking at the event on Aug 15 at 2PM ET, and we (SWF) will be organizing a Fediverse Village for HOPE_16.
Villages are available themed spaces in the St. John’s University campus to be used for coordinating activities. We’re hoping (!) to have talks, meetings, hacking events, and social gatherings at the Fediverse Village.
If you are involved in the Fediverse – or want to be – please join us at HOPE. There will be a lot of interesting and exciting things happening. And if you have good ideas for things to do at the Fediverse Village, please comment or let me know at @evanprodromou@socialwebfoundation.org.
